Christine Claire Provencher, 74, of Springvale, died at her home on Monday, May 13, 2013.Christine was born in Sanford on June 22, 1938 to Jules and Desneiges (Fontaine) Deschenes where she grew up and attended St. Ignatius School. After she was done with school she began working in the local shoe shops. In 1958 she married Leon Provencher and together they raised two children and shared 54 years of marriage. After getting married Christine stayed home for several years to raise her family. When her children grew older she began working for the Sanford school department, first in the cafeteria at Sanford High School and later in the cafeteria of Carl J. Lamb School.Christine loved to go bowling and had been a member of a bowling league at the All-Star Lanes in South Sanford for several years when she was younger. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards and traveling with her husband. Christine had a deep love for her family and she loved to laugh and have fun. She enjoyed listening to music and almost always had music playing in the background when she was at home. She was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church. Christine will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Christine was predeceased by four siblings, Leo Deschenes, Paul Deschenes, Marceline Wagner and Charles Deschenes.Surviving are her husband, Leon Provencher of Springvale; two children, Robert Provencher and his fiancee Sandy Farrell-Clark of Sanford and Denise (Provencher) Bass of Springvale; four grandchildren, Beau Gaudreau of Lyman, Kristie Provencher of West Palm, Florida, Jessica Sladen of Sanford and David Provencher of North Berwick; one great-grandson, Benjamin Gaudreau of Lyman; two siblings, Edward Deschenes and his wife Alva of Kittery and Caroline Ghastin of Lansing, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 17th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 18th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
