Chris Marie Dickson

May 5, 1960 ~ December 31, 2025

Born in: Cincinnatti, Ohio
Resided in: Groton, Connecticut

Christine Dickson, 65, of Groton, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 5th, 1960 in Cincinatti to Edward Sager and Lula May “Christene” Elkins.

Chris was one of five children who grew up on the beaches of southern California. In her early twenties she was able to travel much of the world and learned how to cook along the way. She landed in Connecticut where she met her husband of 40 years, David Dickson. They had two daughters a foster son that they called their own and countless animals over the years, large and small.

Throughout her life Chris had a passion for antiquing and learning the history behind the items that she came across. She and David had many carefully curated collections of antiques, vintage jewelry and family heirlooms that she wasn’t afraid to haggle for.  Chris was a talented seamstress, starting with Halloween costumes and clothes for her daughters, advancing to more intricate patterns and eventually learning the art of upholstery. She worked her adult life in the marine industry, perfecting upholstery and enclosures for yachts and boats.

Chris loved all things old Hollywood, the movies, music, cars, architecture and the styles.  She was full of movie trivia and loved a good reality show and was always ready for a celebrity gossip session.  Chris had a huge heart and was always there for her children, their friends, her husband and their friends and family. She loved to laugh, often to the point of tears, and always was excited to see her grandchildren. She has had a longstanding daily scrabble game going for 15 years with the same few friends that became more about the friendship than winning.

Chris is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Valerie, brother, Pete, and her longest friend, Tink, just 10 days before her, and many dearly loved pets over the years. She is survived by her husband, David, whom they shared a 40th anniversary on December 14th, their children; Carolyn Dickson, and her husband, Justin; Emily Shoop, and her husband, Spencer; Derek Fernald; grandchildren, Celeste “Cammie”, and Starla Shoop; brothers, Mark, Michael and Eddie; sister in law, Patti, and her husband Darrell Tootell, her nieces and nephews; many friends and her three dogs, Dicky, Willy and Sofie.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 26th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM with a funeral service starting at 4:00PM at the Zbeirski House at Eastern Point Beach, 1 Beach Pond Road, Groton, CT.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Chris’ name to the Connecticut Humane Society at https://cthumane.org/
