Charles A. Lund

Captain Charles A. Lund, 87, of Springvale, died at his home on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Chuck was born on August 22, 1931 to A. William and Alice (Hanson) Lund in Alexandria, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended local schools, graduating from high school in 1949. Following graduation he worked briefly for a printing company before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served first as a medic and then attended cadet school and became a pilot and during his career, he flew the T-6, B-24, B-29, and KC-97. During his enlistment he was stationed in several places including Japan, Morocco, and finally in Bangor, Maine where he met Marlene Larson, his future wife. They were married in 1956 and together they raised four children and shared 62 years of marriage. After serving in the military, Chuck and his family moved to Springvale where he attended Nasson College, earning his bachelor's degree in business. During his working life, he worked as a production manager and then in the purchasing department at American Cyanamid/Cyro in Sanford where he was employed for many years until his retirement. Chuck was an incredibly artistic and creative man. He enjoyed water color painting, making guitars and furniture, carving, building sail boats and gardening. He was a member of the Sanford/Springvale Art Association and he also loved sailing on the ocean, up and down the Maine coast. Chuck was a quiet man and enjoyed spending time at home with his family and working on his many projects. Surviving are his wife, Marlene Lund of Springvale; four children, Elise Hannemann of Carmel, Indiana, Eric Lund and his wife Deb of Alfred, Gretchen Nobles and her husband E. Stanley of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire and Ingrid Thompson and her husband Scott of Kennebunk; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eleanor Swanson of Sunland, California, Ardyce "Bonnie" White of Reno, Nevada and Zana Dahl and her husband Larry of Minneapolis, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 with a memorial service immediately following on Wednesday, January 30th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment with military honors will be held in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
