Charles E. Hardy, Sr., 71, of Acton, died on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Charles was born on January 27, 1943 to George and Helen (Foshey) Hardy in Boston, Massachusetts where he grew up and attended local schools. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964. In 1965 Charles married Janice Pimental and together they shared 48 years of marriage and raised three sons. He was employed as a police officer for the city of Boston for 37 years until he retired in 2005.Charles enjoyed working in his yard, playing chess and golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud friend of Bill W. for 30 years. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Charles was predeceased by his parents and by a brother, George Hardy.Surviving are his wife, Janice Hardy of Acton; three sons, Charles E. Hardy, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Limerick, Jay Hardy and his wife Alyssa of Boxford, MA and Paul Hardy and his fiancee Kerry Salamone of Acton; five grandchildren, Jared, Savanna, Emily, Justin and Lucas; six siblings, Marie Vaughn, Tishy Dennis, Terry Hardy, Janice Guertin, Marilyn Black and Dorothy Hardy; his special aunt, Mimi Halpin; his special cousins, Nonie Hodges, Judi Zaino, Janis Mosher, Lillian Robinson and Ralph Halpin, Jr. and many other extended family members.Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a service following at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 17th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19th at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association, 383 US Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
