PORTLAND - Catherine Patricia McCabe, 80, of Portland, died Friday August 23, 2013 at Mercy with her family by her side. She was born on June 8, 1933 in Portland a daughter of George and Bridgett Lyden Shaw. Patty attended Cathedral High School and was a 1951 graduate of Portland High School. On September 14, 1968 she married Thomas J. McCabe in Portland. Patty was employed as a bookkeeper with Yankee Distributors for 10 years. She later accepted a position with Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging retiring in the mid 90's. Patty was a very outgoing person who enjoyed social gathering and parties. She enjoyed dancing and loved to travel. She and Tom made three trips to Ireland along with many other trips. She especially enjoyed the cruises that that they took together. Patty was a life member of the Irish American Club and a life member of the Italian Heritage Center. Survivors include her beloved husband Thomas J. McCabe of Portland; two daughters, Teresa Smart and husband Robert of Oxford, Kathleen Chase and partner Joseph Fitzgerald of Buxton; two sons, David McCabe and wife Laurie of North Berwick, Michael Zsiga of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Georgiana Young and husband Charles of Portland, Carol Ann Shaw of Biddeford; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of the 5th Floor at Mercy Hospital. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday August 27, 2013 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, 673 Stevens Ave, Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
