Carolyn Litchfield
ACTON : Carolyn M. Litchfield, 67, a summer resident and later a full time resident of Mousam Lake and a former resident of Hamilton, MA, died Saturday, January 3 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by Carl Litchfield, her loving husband and partner of 43 years; her daughter, Heather; her son, Staff Sgt. Glenn; her grandchildren Tyler, Ryan, and Maegan; her sister, Betty Vierstra; and her brothers, Bob and Dennis Mason, as well as several nieces and nephews.She was born in Hanover, NH, October 17, 1941, to Robert C. and Adelaide (Story) Mason. Carolyn was raised on a dairy farm in Sharon VT leading to her love of cows. She was educated at the Sharon Grammar school and was a graduate of So. Royalton High School in 1959. She received her associates degree from Hampton (MA) Community College.While living in Massachusetts, Carolyn was an active member of the First Church in Wenham where she was the secretary for many years. She served on many committees and participated in many of the church groups. In the short time she was a resident of Maine, Carolyn was an active member of the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford where she made many close friends while volunteering and participating in various groups.In her younger years she and her husband Carl enjoyed the outdoors, particularly canoeing and camping. They were both members of the Appalachian Mountain Club where she was the club's secretary for a number of years. She loved to crochet and knit. Carolyn belonged to knitting groups and donated many hats to newborns at the Salam (MA) Hospital. Carolyn's loves included teddy bears, dolls, music, baking, and recently, inspirational poetry. She was well known for her mouth watering sweet pickles. Not only did she maintain a vegetable garden, but her flower gardens and house plants thrived with her loving hands. There are numerous bird feeders that she enjoyed watching at her home at the lake. A memorial visitation will take place Friday, January 16 from 5 to 7 pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. A Memorial Service will be conducted Saturday, January 17 at 1 :00 pm at the North Parish Congragational Church, 893 Main St., Sanford, ME.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Parish Congregational Church, c/o Rev.
