Portland-Carmella P. Shaw, 95, formerly of South Portland and Lakehouse Road, Naples, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family and sent off with love to the loving arms of the Lord. She was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 8, 1919 the 2nd daughter of Guiseppe and Serofina Roselli DiGennaro. Carmella met Elwood Boston Shaw of Naples, Maine. They fell in love and got married on September 25, 1938. They started their family in Manchester, New Hampshire. They moved with their four children to Naples, Maine in 1949. She worked for several years as a receptionist at Progressive Doll Company in Manhatten, NY prior to her marriage. Briefly, she worked at FW Woolworth Company. She was a great homemaker, mother and Italian cook. She worked summers at Migis Lodge and Hatchers Restaurant in Naples. To keep active, in her eighties, she worked at McDonalds and Wendys in South Portland. She was a people person and loved her customers. Carmella was a longtime communicant of St. Josephs Church in Bridgton, Maine. She was predeceased by her husband Elwood B. Shaw; a daughter Judith Grace Shaw in 2004; four brothers Gene, Thomas, Tony and Michael DiGennaro; two sisters Grace Farfone and Yolanda Amelio. She is survived by twin sons Robert C. and his wife Marilee Shaw of Danville, ME and Richard T. and his wife Carla Shaw of South Paris, ME; Dr. Susan S. Shaw of Portland, Maine; grandchildren Debra Jean Shaw of Portland, Michael Shaw of Naples, Dr. Steven Scott Shaw of Falmouth and Stella Monroe of Oxford; brother in law Joseph Amelio of Bronx, New York; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat of 19 years Miss Pooh. A celebration of Carmellas life will be held in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine.
