Carmel T. Morin, of Sanford, passed away on Wednesday, November 4th, at Varney Crossing in North Berwick. We thank God for giving us such a beautiful and caring mother and grandmother. She was born on July 2, 1935 to Alphonse and Odile (Mercier) Therrien, who migrated from Canada looking for work and settled in Sanford. Carmel grew up the youngest of twelve children and along with her siblings was a great support to her parents. The first in her family to graduate from St. Ignatius High School, she had the distinction of once having published a poem. Carmel married Roger D. Morin on November 24, 1960 and together raised three children, Patricia, David and Daniel in Sanford. Being a very hard worker, she worked as a meat cutter for A&P for many years. She was also employed at Sprague Electric and Cyro, working 3rd and swing shifts. Carmel was a Matron Deputy Sheriff. She also had her own business for over 20 years, Carmel's Catering, and after working at Coca-Cola for many years, her husband joined her. Carmel put on fabulous buffets for local weddings and parties. She catered her nieces' and nephew's weddings as well as her own children's. She worked at the Colony for a few summers before fully retiring. Her children wondered how she ever did it all. While her children were in school, she attended their sporting events and ceremonies. They could always count on her being there to support their endeavors, whatever they were. In 1989, her husband, Roger, passed away and she continued to keep herself busy, taking great pride in working around her home, fixing anything that needed repair, refinishing furniture, and tending to her flower garden. She shared her library of movies and books with all her family. Carmel was blessed with six grandchildren. She enjoyed them tremendously, especially when all of them were together at her home. There were lots of toys for them to play with and plenty of delicious snacks to eat. She liked to take them to the lake for a swim, and, on rainy days, take them to Burger King to play in their indoor gym and share her new found drink "Spoke". She was also blessed with three great grandchildren. Amidst the pain and dementia, she had a rough road, but was never known to complain, and faced what life had brought her as a valiant soldier of Christ, knowing that life given to all is a special gift. Her children loved her every moment. She has bridged her life to theirs with strong faith and perseverance, always striving with hope. Her children thank her for always protecting and loving them. They thank her for her giving soul and loving heart, and pray she be filled with the peace and love that only our God can provide, and pray for her to please watch over them on their journeys here on earth. Carmel is predeceased by her parents, her sisters Marie Ange, Gisele, Isabelle, and Theresa, brother Robert, who died shortly after birth, and Maurice. Survivors include sisters Cecile and Lorraine; and brothers Bertrand, Aldege, and Robert. Her children, Patricia, David, and Daniel; grandchildren Amy, Michael, Andrew, Katelyn, Nicholas and Danielle; and great grandchildren Camryn, Ella and Caleb. Special thanks to Varney Crossing Nursing Care in North Berwick and Dover Hospice. For memorial contributions, please consider Alzheimer's Association, 383 US Route 1, #2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
