Carl E. Stanley, 83, of Shapleigh, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Carl was born in Shapleigh on March 30, 1923 to George and Iva (Muchmore) Stanley, he attended Lindsey High School. In 1940, he married his wife, Anita Fontaine. After school he managed the Laudholm Dairy Farm. He left this position to run the family dairy farm in Shapleigh after his father became ill. Later, Mr. Stanley began working for Freeman Welding Supply Company. He was instrumental in establishing the Sanford store, he managed this location for many years. He was a very hard working person; this was evident in both his work and his personal life.Mr. Stanley was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially for deer, rabbits and birds. Carl and his wife spent a lot of time together doing these activities and traveling to northern Maine. During the winter, he enjoyed riding the many snowmobile trails in the area. He played a big part in establishing the Mousam Valley Snowmobile Club. Carl was a very family oriented person; he liked attending family functions and especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a very kind and loving man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Surviving are his wife, Anita Stanley, of Shapleigh; a son, George A. Stanley and his wife Kathleen of Shapleigh; a sister, Marion Brown of Meredith, NH; three granddaughters, Laura Leedberg and her husband Melvin of Saco, Shannon Towner and her husband Robert Joseph of Westerly, RI, and Megan Thiel and her husband Wesley of South Hadley, MA; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Leedberg, Katrina Leedberg, Michael Leedberg, Aidan Towner and Keagan Towner.Funeral services for Mr. Stanley will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are through Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.
