Carl D. Harris
Carl D. Harris, 72, of Epsom, a longtime resident of Sanford and Alfred, died November 5 at the Harris Hill Nursing Home in Concord, NH.He was born in Sanford on March 8, 1935, a son of Laurel R. and Edna Ann (Cram) Harris. He attended local schools and was a 1953 graduate of Sanford High School.Carl served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960.He graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science, Embalming and Funeral Directing in Boston in 1963.For some 33 years, he worked throughout Maine and New Hampshire as a funeral director and embalmer including employment with the former Hurd Funeral Home in Sanford.During his time in Sanford, he had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Church.In his spare time he raised Appaloosa horses which he took to shows on many weekends.He was predeceased by a brother, Norman L. Harris.Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth A. Stone of West Lawn, PA, a son, Christopher A. Harris of Eliot, a sister, Doris Cote of Sanford, 2 half-brothers, Stanley E. Hill, Jr. of Sanford, Carroll D. (Sam) Hill of Sanford, a half sister, Susan F. Creteau of Acton, 2 grandchildren, Cameron Stone and Logan Stone, both of West Lawn, PA, several cousins, nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale on Thursday from 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM in St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford.
