Beverly J. Dahms
April 3, 1934 ~ April 24, 2016
Beverly Dahms survived 82 years with the heart of a lion and a backbone as strong as she was stubborn. Born April 4, 1934 in Portland to Ralph and Sarah Meserve Dahms, she was the oldest of 11 children. She spent her childhood hanging out with her friends Annie, Diane, and Anne. Bev was a devoted worker who started at the Meat Factory in Portland and then went onto Burrows, making pool table screens. Her passion was plants; she worked at Coulthard Farms and eventually found her second home at Broadway Gardens. She worked there throughout her adult years into retirement. Her favorite part of the job was going to the farmers markets and selling flowers. Broadway Gardens was not only her second home, but also her second family. Her knowledge of plants and flowers was amazing. Beverly is survived by her sons; Ronald Dahms and wife Debbie of Windham, Russell Dahms, Sr. and his wife Kathy of South Portland, grandchildren Caitlin, Evan, Russell, Jr., Jessica, Jason, Beau, Sadie, and Laura; great grandchildren Chase and Julia. She is also survived by her brothers Carl and Richard, and sisters Jean, Patricia, and Judy, as well as many closenieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Walter, George, and Ralph and sisters Shirley and Debbie, as well as her longtime companion, Laurette Robitaille. The family would like to thank the Mercy Hospital 2nd Floor nurses and the VNA Hospice for its care and support. A special thank you to Rebecca Wal and Stephanie from the VNA for their love and compassion. Beverlys goal in life was to be normal, unfortunately she was unsuccessful as everyone who met Bevie found her to be exceptional. Visiting hours will be 4:00 7:00 PM, Wednesday, April 27 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Thursday, April 28 at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd., South Portland. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.

Bev was such an incredible lady, and I feel lucky to have had her as a surrogate grandma. All my love to the whole family.
