Beulah I. Cyr, 91, of Springvale, died peacefully on December 11, 2007 at the Seal Rock Health Care Facility in Saco with son Mark and wife Elaine by her side.Beulah was born in Fort Kent, ME on July 18, 1916 to Richard and Mary Ann Marquis Johnson and attended local schools. In her early 20's, she worked as a model in New York. During World War II, she worked at the shipyard in Portland assisting her country in the war effort. After getting married, Mrs. Cyr stopped working so she could devote herself to raising her two sons. When her sons were grown, she took a position as a private cook for the Kennard family in Newton, MA. She did this for approximately 10 years until she decided that she wanted to move back to Maine to be closer to her family. In her later years, Beulah was a member of the H.D. Goodall Hospital Auxiliary. She also enjoyed painting and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She will be remembered as a private and quiet person and a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed.Beulah was predeceased by her husband, John Cyr; two brothers, John and Gilbert Johnson and three sisters, Gladys Withington, Winifred Powers and Viola Beach.Surviving are two sons, Dr. John Cyr and his wife Jane of Louisville, KY and Mark Cyr and his wife Elaine of Springvale; a brother, Harl Johnson of Shapleigh; two granddaughters, Lauren Cyr of Springvale and Kristen Sipes of Louisville, KY; two grandsons, Christopher Cyr of Sanford and Kevin Cyr of Minneapolis, MN; five great-grandchildren and a niece, June Keefe and her husband Alan of South Portland.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St. Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101.Private family services will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.
