Portland - Betty A. (Lazarovich) Pomroy, 86, passed away May 26, 2021.
Born in Portland on October 13, 1934, Betty was the daughter of the late William and Nora (Geary) Lazarovich. She was a daughter of immigrants who grew up in a Portland neighborhood of immigrants. Growing up half Irish and half Lithuanian, Betty had a fiercely loyal and dedicated personality. Accents and eccentricities were the sound music of her life. A Portland, Maine gal through and through, Betty made sure every stranger, soon to be friend, knew of her pride of Portland.
She was dedicated to the service of others. Betty spent her professional career as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years before retiring. In addition to her career, Betty was very active in the community with various fundraisers and volunteering opportunities. She was so well known in the City of Portland that members of our community never referred to her son by name, but as "Betty's Son". She served on the boards of several area non-profits; the Irish American Club, the Boys and Girls Club and she was the founder of the Geriatric Nurse Program. In addition, she was a greeter for immigrants to the city and she helped establish voting rights for the elderly. Betty is a recipient of the Portland Key to the City as recognition of her service to others in our community. Above all else, she loved her family and had many fond memories spending time with her grandchildren in Freeport, ME and beyond.
In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her husband, Walter Pomroy and grand-parents, Patrick Geary, Nora Keany, Abe Lazarovich and Fanny Buchalter.
She is survived by her son, Colin Pomroy and wife Molly; grandchildren, William, Thomas, Luke and Maxwell; brother and best-friend, Robert "Bubba" Larkin.

The Bloch family has many fond memories, from many visits to Maine, of our dearly beloved Cousin Betty–including picnic lunches at Fort Allen Park overlooking Casco Bay, as well as glorious summer cookouts at Betty’s waterfront property in Freeport. Betty was a kind, gracious and cheerful soul who showered much love and kindness on those she met. She radiated joy and love to those around her. She was filled with integrity, honesty, and decency. She had a lot of grit and a steadfast ability to overcome adversity. She was always “All Hail, Well Met.” Most of all, she was always lots of fun. In sum, Betty was a first-class human being with a beautiful soul. We will miss you, our dearly beloved Cousin. And we will always cherish many beautiful memories of your wonderful life. My Mom was Mary Fields, daughter of Julia Geary, Nora’s cousin. I got to know Betty at many Irish American Club functions. She was such a sweet and kind woman, she will be greatly missed. God Bless you Betty, may the road rise to meet you.
