Bertha I. Cote

Bertha I. Cote, 96, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. Bertha was born in Sanford on February 16, 1916 to Louis and Laura (Gagnon) Morrissette where she grew up and attended local schools. In 1936 she married Emile Cote. Together they raised three children and shared 51 years of marriage until his death in 1987. Bertha was employed for ten years at Universal Shoe Company and then for four years at Sandler Shoe Company. During the 1960s she established Bertha's Beauty Salon which she owned and operated until she retired in 1987.Bertha enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, reupholstering furniture and traveling. She was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish of Sanford/Springvale. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a 78 year member of the Daughters of Isabella. Bertha was also a former member and past president of the Sanford Hair Dressers Association. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Bertha was predeceased by her husband and three siblings, Roland and Robert Morrissette and Viola Dureau.Surviving are three children, Donald Cote and his wife Gloria of Copperas Cove, Texas; Rachel Boisvert and her husband Richard of Sanford and Emile Cote and his wife Phyllis of Lakeland, FL; 10 grandchildren, Darlene Cote of Austin, TX, Derek Cote and his wife Deanna of Clarksville, TN, Donald Cote and his wife Maria of Snohomish, WA, Daniel Cote and his wife Bettina of Humble, TX, Christine Dupuis and her husband David of Sanford and Brian Boisvert and his wife Sarah Herlihy of Boston, MA, Cheryl Boisvert and her fiancee Jason Worswick of South Portland, Michael Cote of Sanford, Matthew Cote and his wife Amy of Mapleton, ME and Mark Cote of Aptos, CA; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 24th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 25th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford.
