Bertha Charette
Bertha L. Charette, of Sanford, died on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH. She was born on April 11, 1917 to Joseph and Mary (Lebel) Perron in Salem, Massachusetts. Her family moved to Sanford when she was a child where she attended local schools. As a young woman, she was very athletic, and in high school, she was captain of the baseball, field hockey and basketball teams.Throughout the years, she was employed at several places of which included, the Goodall Mills, Sanford Shoe Factory and Universal Shoe Company. She thoroughly enjoyed working at First National Store in Sanford, where she worked for 24 years, and at Leedy's Restaurant for 24 years as well. Bertha was a devout Catholic and a communicant of Holy Family Church in Sanford. She loved take drives to the beach bringing a lunch and book, to spend hours there. Also, being very independent, she still drove her car well into her ninety's. Bertha was a very loving, caring, and sweet woman. She was loved by many, and will be dearly missed.She is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Lucien A. Charette, who passed away in 1979, a son Thomas Charette, sisters Yvonne Boudreau, Alma Murphy, Marie A. Patch, Jeanne Pouliot, and Alice Bernier, brothers, Leo Perron, Albert Berron, Arthur Perron, and Alpha Perron.Survivors include, sons Gerard Charette and his wife Beverly of Sanford, William Charette and his wife Judy, of Rochester, NH., a daughter Julie McIntire and her husband Gary, seven grandchildren, Angel Eardley, Thomas Charette, Evan McIntire, Ian McIntire, Cameron McIntire, Gregory, Charette and Michael Charette, four great grand children, and two great great grandchildren.The family would like to thank the staff at Newton Center in Sanford for the quality of care they provided for their mother.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 9, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish Holy Family Church on North Ave. in Sanford.
