Bernard H. DeHaven, 91, of Alfred, passed away on Friday September 28, 2007 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. During the past year he was a resident of Shaw House in Biddeford. He was born in Sanford on March 3, 1916, a son of Albert and Nellie (Huntress) DeHaven. He moved to Alfred in 1939 when he married the former Pauline Ricker.Mr. DeHaven served as Alfred Town Clerk from 1961 to 1989 and Registrar of Voters, first President and member of York County Clerk's Association. He was a member and former secretary of the Fraternal Lodge No. 55 AF & AM in Alfred. He was also treasurer of the Fraternal Lodge Temple Association as well as a member of the White Rose Chapter, Bethany Commandery, No. 24, Knights of Templar and former member of the Portland Commandery Band. Bernard was past treasurer and member of the Sanford Community Band. He played the drums in several area bands. He was also a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Parsons Memorial Library, former trustee, moderator and deacon of the Alfred Parish Congregational Church, Past President of the Alfred Historical Society, member of the Alfred Historical Committee, Chairman of the Alfred Festival and a member of the Fern Chapter No. 139, O.E.S. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Pauline DeHaven who passed away in October of 2002. He is also predeceased by one granddaughter, Susan. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Jacobsen and her husband, Lawrence of Alfred, and Roberta Boyer of Florida, two grandchildren, Allan Perkins and his wife, Felicia and Sara Perkins of Florida, four great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.Visiting hours for Mr. DeHaven will be on Monday from 6-8pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. Members of the Fraternal Lodge are invited to gather at the funeral home for a service at 7:30pm. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 1pm at the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Burnham officiating.
