Berla Charlotte White Slefinger

Berla Charlotte White Slefinger passed away at her residence in Portland, Maine on Saturday, September 15. She was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick on December 24, 1924; daughter of the late Abner "Cap" and Phyllis McAllister. Besides her parents, Berla was predeceased by her loving husbands - Leander "Gander" White to whom she was married for 47 years and Bernard "Bunny" Slefinger, whom she married following the death of her first husband Leander; and her sister Betty McAllister Thornton. Berla was a Communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville for many years until relocating with Gander to New Port Richey, Florida in 1984 and then to Portland, Maine in 2010 to be closer to her children. Berla was devoted to her family and enjoyed the many White family gatherings throughout the years. She was a wonderful dancer and received accolades from people of all ages for her abilities. Berla will be sadly missed by her children: daughter Carol Dipietro of Portland, Maine, sons Martin White and his wife Gaye of Freeport, Maine and Jay White and his wife Brenda of Biddeford, Maine; grandchildren Adrian White and his companion Katie Rinker of Essex Junction, Vermont, Janessa Morris and her husband Keith of Norwalk, Connecticut, Garrett White of Freeport, Maine, Jay Dipietro and his wife Melissa of Andover, Massachusetts, Morgan Dipietro of Portland, Maine and Joey and Charlotte White of Biddeford, Maine. She had many nieces, nephews, and friends who were very dear to her. A funeral mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Main Street in Freeport on Saturday, October 6 at 11:00 A.M. A public graveside service celebrated by Father James Plourde will be held at the Baileyville, Maine cemetery at a later date.
