Portland- Benjamin William "Bumpa" Wyne, 57, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
Ben was born in Washington state, the son of Wilbert Michael Wyne and Anne Godefroy. Ben was raised in Seattle, started his family in Alaska and made his home in Maine. He was very proud of his Tlingit blood line and his Alaskan Native Heritage.
Ben's desire to learn, his curiosity to see how something works, and his determination to fix what didn't was never ending. He was constantly learning and his ambition to try something new was endless, from fixing cars and building fireworks to creating squirrel obstacle courses and laying patio bricks. He could be described as a Master Tinkerer.
What defined Ben was not his ability to fix something or his expansive knowledge, but his love of family and friends. One of his great joys in life was helping those around him and never wished anything in return except for the occasional burrito. His infectious laugh would fill a room. He truly was the entire cheering squad for the underdog and believed in people when they didn't believe in themselves. His love for his family was unmatched. He was father to five children: Christopher, Cassandra, Shenah, Alyssa, and Dakota. He was the most amazing "Bumpa" to his eight grandchildren: Gideon, Finnley, Amari, Titus, Oliver, Millie, Noah, and Hudson. There was always a twinkle in Ben's eye when he spoke of his children, grandchildren and even his grand dogs. On December 31, 2018, after sharing more than twenty years together, Ben married the love of his life, Diane B. McDonald, in a beautiful winter wedding surrounded by family and close friends. Diane was truly his soulmate. They were the perfect match and shared all life's adventures together.
Ben's memory will live on for generations as he will be remembered as a kind, caring, generous, helpful, smart, loving husband, father, bumpa, brother and friend to many. "He was the kindest soul I have ever known and the hardest worker anyone had ever seen. You fought for what you believed in, spoke your mind, and loved unconditionally...if I can be half the person you were, I can live a life fulfilled."
A celebration of Ben's life will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Vineyard Church of Mechanic Falls, 90 Lewiston Street, Mechanic Falls, Me. In true Tlingit tradition, a Koo.eex potluck will be shared with family and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME.
