Barry W. Ellingwood

Barry William Ellingwood, 71, of Sanford, passed away on June 5, 2017 from complications of ALS. He was born on June 10, 1945 to Ruth (Porell) Ellingwood and George Ellingwood.He was a lifelong resident of Sanford and educated in local schools. He graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington. Barry taught school in Millinocket before returning to Sanford to join his father and grandfather in their plumbing and heating business, which he ran until he retired. Barry loved the outdoors and hiked and biked extensively. He was an avid mountain climber throughout Maine and New Hampshire. He had been to the summit of Mt. Katahdin twice and had hiked the southern portions of the Appalachian Trail.He was fond of Siberian Huskies and his current dog, Balto, was rescued, from a shelter.He was a lifelong member of the Sanford Baptist Church and a member of the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed going to Camp Hines in the summer.Survivors include his aunt, Marilyn DeHaven and cousins Timothy and Lisa DeHaven and their children, Adam DeHaven and Nicole MacDonald and several cousins.At the family's request, there will be no public services. Interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation in his name to the Sanford First Baptist Church, 905 Main St., Sanford, ME.
