January 3, 1932 ~ August 31, 2013

SCARBOROUGH - Barbara J. Williamson, 81, of Audubon Way, died Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Maine Medical Center with her loving family at her side. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 3, 1932, a daughter of Thomas J. and Mary A. (Kearney) Lynch. She graduated from Rosindale High School, class of 1949, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Boston State Teachers College, class of 1953. She married John R. "Jack" Williamson on July 2, 1955, at St. Theresa's Church in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. Barbara was known to all as an exceptionally devoted caregiver. She was always telling everyone memorable stories about her son, her three grandchildren and great-grandson. One of Barbara's greatest passions was working with children. She taught kindergarten and second grade for many years in the Boston area. Barbara would never pass up an opportunity to smile at babies she would see in a restaurant, or stop to smile and wave at a little one she would see while walking in the mall. There is no doubt that children were one of the biggest joys in Barbara's life. Barbara was a very active lady all the way up until the day that she passed away. Some would often refer to her as a busy bee. Impressively, up until a year before her passing, she would walk about 3 miles a day to stay fit. At 81, Barbara would still attend an exercise class three times a week, Bingo outings twice a week, church every Saturday and would keep many lunch dates every week with family and friends. Barbara loved life and she lived it to the fullest. She is predeceased by her husband who died November 16, 2009; and four sisters, Mary Richard, Dorothea Murphy, Jean Lynch, and Claire Lynch. She is survived by her son, John G. Williamson and his wife Amy Rolnick of Portland; three grandchildren, Jennifer Braziel, Laura Gaudet, and Timothy Williamson; two step-grandchildren, Noah and Eliana Finberg; great-grandson Jacob Braziel; and her sister, Patricia Morin of Rhode Island. She was a selfless individual who would have dropped everything to help a family member or friend. We will remember her for her laughter, her gentle kindness, and most of all her compassion and unconditional love she had for everyone who knew her. An 11:00 am Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Blackpoint Road, Scarborough. Interment will be at a later date at Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne, Massachusetts. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.Online condolences may be expressed below.
