Barbara Perrone
Barbara Louise Perrone, 102, of Sanford, went to be with her loving Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford.Barbara was the third child on Norman Rogers Smith and Ethel Louise Harris, born on September 2, 1912 at home on Chickatawbut Street, Neponset, Massachusetts where she grew up and attended local schools. She was always very fond of school and learning. Her father owned and operated a boat yard where she developed a deep and long-time love for swimming and boating.Barbara had loving and fond memories of her mother and grandfather; she referred to them as devoted Christians. Grampa Harris attended services at the First Baptist Church of Dorchester, MA and took his four grandchildren with him for services and Sunday school. Barbara frequently told, with great emotion, of her baptism at the age of 14 along with her sister and two brothers. She had an unwavering faith in God that impacted her family and all that knew her. Her most passionate desire was to know that all of her family would know Jesus as their personal Savior. Her faith strengthened throughout her life with Bible reading and evangelistic teachings of Billy Graham, of whom she was an avid supporter.As a young adult, Barbara worked at Tubular Rivet and Die Company in Quincy, MA where she met her first husband, Axel Knute Broberg. They were married in 1934 and lived in Quincy, MA where her daughter and son were born. In 1942, they moved to West Paris, ME where another daughter and son were born. In 1962 she married Joseph P. Perrone and moved to Dorchester, MA. After his passing, she built a new home in West Paris, ME. Later she built another home with her son, Daniel in Mashpee, MA and lastly, they moved to Sanford, ME in 1999.Barbara had a love for life which included swimming, boating, exercising, cooking, eating well and working on the family genealogy. She was extremely compassionate towards people, offering praise and compliments which made everyone feel extra special. She was fun to be with, full of energy and had an infectious laugh which displayed her enjoyment of life.She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph P. Perrone, her daughter Bernice A. Kravic, two brothers, Donald Rogers Smith and Norman Grenville Smith and his wife Ruth, her sister Marion Gertrude Junkins and husband, Elmer and by her sister Marion Gertrude Junkins and her husband Elmer and by her first husband Axel Knute Broberg.Surviving are her sons, David R. Broberg and his wife Sandra of West Paris, ME, Daniel P. Broberg, of Sanford, ME and her daughter Judith E. Duda of Randolph, MA; 11 grandchildren, 12 great and 6 great-great grandchildren, a niece and nephews and a sister-in-law, "Kitty" Smith.Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Barbara at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 20th at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Neponset, MA with her husband, Joseph Perrone and daughter, Bernice Amelia Broberg Kravic.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the Condolences tab at left.
