Barbara A. Lizotte

Barbara passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine at the age of 91. She was born August 24, 1931 in Sanford, Maine and lived all her life on the family property on Mt. Hope. She was the eldest daughter of Stephen and Addie (Butler) Cobbett. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey, son Danny and brother Bill. She is survived by her children Pam (Tom) Gauthier, Janet Coyne and Darlene (Steven) Irving, she leaves 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her sister Stephanie. Barbara started working at W.T. Grant Company when she was a teenager and continued there until it closed. She then went to work for York County Community Action in their weatherization program working into her 80’s. In the mid 80’s she, Pam and Danny bought 3 Belgian Show Draft Horses and from then on it was a family affair showing them at county and state fairs around New England with her children and grandchildren. Fryeburg Fair was her favorite, she looked forward to going for the week and being with the draft horse community making many longtime friendships. She loved to travel. If you needed a partner for a road trip all you had to do was to call and her bag was packed and ready to go. A couple of her most memorable “road trips” were through the Black Hills of South Dakota with a friend and the California to Maine drive with her granddaughter Katy. “Gram” as she was known by so many enjoyed spending time in Florida in the winters over the years. And telling stories of her travels around the world. She loved to knit. There was always a dishcloth or hat started next to her. No visit was complete until you left with one or two new “Gram” dishcloths, and likely a winter hat, even in the summer. Our appreciation is given to the incredibly caring staff at the Gosnell House. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the spring.
