Barbara L. Heal
Barbara L. Heal, 66 died Saturday at the Newton Center following a short illness. She was born in Portland on April 9, 1942, a daughter of Francis T. and Caroline M. (Nelson) Griffin.She attended the Cathedral Grammar School in Portland and was a graduate of South Portland High School class of 1959. She has been a resident of Springvale for the past 28 years, coming from Berwick. Barbara was employed at the former Leedy's Restaurant in Alfred, working both as waitress and bartender for over 20 years. She was later employed at the AMVETS as a bartender and manager.Barbara was past president for the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary for the State of Maine. She was serving as president of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Post #3 until her death. She was also a member of the American Legion and a life member and past treasurer of the Wolf's Club of Sanford.She is survived by a daughter, Kim Ross and her husband, Tim of Sanford; her son, Tom Heal and his significant other, Roxanne Arseneault of Sanford; two sisters, Eleanor Eustin and her husband, John of Portland and Carol Barlow of Fort Smith, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Matthew Guertin, Kristen Ross, Eric Ross, and Cole Ross.A Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
