Barbara Gale Cadwell, a loving mother and forever creative spirit, passed away at 81 years of age on December 11, 2024.
Born January 8, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, she spent much of her adult life in New England and upstate NY.
She is survived by her children, Jessica Perks (Kevin), Jeb Cadwell (Janice), and Bonne Cadwell; her sister, Betty Koczersut (Jim); her grandchildren Damon, Celia, Mae, and Sawyer; and her loving golden retriever, Jenne. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hildegarde and Charles Stephens, and many faithful companion dogs.
Barbara graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Western Michigan and, in the 1970s, taught high school English and composition near Detroit. In 1982, she began a forty-year career as a professional writer, freelancing for newspapers and self-publishing five books. She made wise real estate investments during this time, which supplemented her early writing career.
A nonconformist in every sense of the word, Barbara lived a life of spontaneity and her own form of spirituality. She loved icy cold wintry walks, late-night philosophical conversations, front porch cigarette meditation, dream journaling, camping, exploring the country, and driving. Her humorous wisdom was revered by many whom she met on her daily walks. Her books included themes of reincarnation, romance, and historical fiction based on Native Americans and Rock N Roll stars. She took pride in teaching her children to excel in reading, writing, and following their hearts. Her love of dogs was deep and genuine. “Dog is God spelled backward,” she would say. Above all, she took the road less traveled and adhered to the principles, “Let go and let God” and “If it isn’t fun, stop doing it.”
Her memorial service will be private. Anyone wishing to honor her memory can do so by following their bliss.
