Arthur R. Spencer

Arthur R. Spencer, 58, beloved son and brother died on April 24, 2008 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Kennebunk, Maine.Arthur was born on January 16, 1950 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He lived in Pleasantville, NJ where he was a Boy Scout and played for the Mighty Mites football team. He moved with his family to Galloway Township and graduated from Oakcrest High School. During his high school tenure, he was in the drama club and played the lead in their production of "Charlie's Aunt". After high school, he moved to New York where he attended Cooper Union and the Art Students League. He then moved to the Boston area where he worked as a carpenter. After moving to Andover, MA in 1986 Arthur worked with the Andover Trails Committee and helped foreign-born adults learn and speak English.Arthur was predeceased by his father Arthur S. Spencer.Surviving are his former wife of nearly 30 years, Sarah B. Young of Andover, MA; his mother Claire J. Spencer, his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Frank Sullivan and his brother Stephen, all of Galloway, NJ; his nieces, Kathryn of IN and Karen Hagen of PA, his nephews, Max and Travis Spencer of Galloway, NJ and two god-daughters, Lauren Smith of Brooklyn, New York and Ariana Mello of Andover, MA.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the North Parish Unitarian Church in North Andover, located at 190 Academy Rd., North Andover, MA. A memorial service will be held 6:30 PM on Sunday, May 18th at the Highland Community Church in Galloway, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Hall Library in Andover, MA., The Pine Street Inn in Boston, MA., or any charity that benefits children.
