Armand Ferdinand Roberge, 87, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Berwick Estates in South Berwick.Armand was born in Sanford on October 3, 1925 to Ernest and Emma (Johnson) Roberge where he grew up and attended local schools. He graduated from Sanford High School where he was an outstanding athlete. During World War II he was stationed in Cuba while serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as an accountant for several companies during his life including MAC Loans, Gendron's Lumber and Central Tire where he worked until he retired.Armand was a very social man and was nicknamed "Charmin' Armand." He was a member of the Elks, the Springvale Social Club, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. When he was younger he was very active as a referee and umpire for Sanford youth athletics. He loved watching all sports, particularly football. He also spent many hours painting which was his favorite hobby.Armand was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Arlene Viola (Strout) Roberge.Surviving are four sons, John Roberge, William Roberge, Thomas Roberge and Robert Roberge, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 7th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 10th at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, Maine 04102Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
