SOUTH PORTLAND - Anthony E. Silva, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully at his home on June 14th in the loving presence of his wife and family. He was born in Portland, ME, the only child of Anthony W. Silva and Maud Feeney Silva on Nov. 25, 1934. Tony attended Holy Cross School, Cheverus High School and on to his beloved University of Notre Dame graduating with the Class of 1956. He attended Holy Cross Parish his entire life. On a wintery day in Jan. of 1958 Tony married Patricia Sullivan. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Lester from 1957 to 1961. While serving in the Navy Tony and Pat lived in Georgia, Rhode Island, and Connecticut before settling back in Maine to raise their family. His professional life as a CPA brought him to the firms of Jordan Jordan and Arthur Young leading him to a long career with the financial administration for the Maine State Diocese at the Chancery. He retired in 1999. Tony was an avid sailor who owned the Leprechaun with its bright yellow spinnaker. Tony and Pat loved their years and time spent at their cottage El Capistrano on Peaks Island. They rekindled friendships with cousins while Tony explored passions for cooking, growing herbs and vegetables, and carpentry. He is predeceased by his parents and two daughters Jane Elizabeth and Judy Coyne. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, daughters Mary Jo Silva of Sidney, ME, Carol Holmes of Barnegat, NJ, Connie and husband Mickey Gray of So. Portland, son Tony Silva, Jr. and husband Derek McNiff of Boston, MA, and son in law Eddie Coyne of So. Portland. He was the proud Pa to Courtney Brian Holmes and Emily Matthew Gray. Tony would want to thank the generosity and kindness of special neighbors and friends as well as VNA and Hospice caretakers. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. Prayers will be recited at the chapel on Wednesday, June 18th at 9:15am followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Old Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
