Anne M. Nason

December 27, 2006
Anne Mary Nason, 80, beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother, died at her daughter's home on December 27th after a brief battle with cancer.Anne was born June 6, 1926 on Cape Freels, Newfoundland, Canada; the daughter of James and Agatha Myrick. Her father was a fog-horn keeper and Anne told many fond stories of her childhood there. As an adult, Anne moved to St. Johns where she taught handicapped children. It was while working there that she met Conrad Nason, a young United States airman who was stationed there. Thus began a loved that lasted a lifetime. Anne left her homeland and married Conrad in Mobile Alabama on April 13, 1952. A year later while Conrad was stationed in Washington, D.C., their first child, Ernest was born. Anne studied and became a U.S. citizen soon afterward, an accomplishment she was always very proud of. In 1956, Conrad was stationed in Newfoundland once again and it was there that their twins, Kenneth and Mary were born.Over the next 15 years, Anne made "home" wherever the Air Force sent Conrad; Florida, Massachusetts, Alaska, New Jersey, Labrador and California. Anne never complained about the moves, she felt she was doing it for her country and her family. When Conrad retired after 21 years of service, they moved to Springvale where Conrad had grown up. She once again made a warm and welcoming home for their three teenage children and all of their many friends. One of Anne's many talents was knitting. One year, while her three children were in college, they and many of their friends received afghans that she had knit. Anne was also a wonderful baker. One year, while she was taking a class, she helped to develop a cookbook, which her daughter cherishes. She was an avid reader, feeling strongly that it was very important to stay informed about local and world events. She instilled her love for reading in each of her children. Anne loved music and laughter and will be remembered for the many happy times that she spent with her family.Anne retired from Sprague Electric it 1986 after 15 years of employment; prior to that she was the assistant manager of a large apartment complex in Southern California. When her children were young, she taught CCD classes and was Den Mother to numerous Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops. One year after their retirement, Conrad suffered a massive stroke and for the next 16 years, Anne was his devoted caregiver. A year after Conrad died, Anne lost her son Kenneth to esophageal cancer. In addition to her husband and son, Anne was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, James and Michael, all of Trepassey, Newfoundland.Surviving are a son, Ernest Nason of Sanford with whom she resided until her recent illness; a daughter, Mary Libbey and husband Robert of East Waterboro; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Nason of Springvale; three grandchildren, Andrew Libbey of East Waterboro, Vanessa Nason of Boston, MA and Michael Nason of Providence, RI; a sister-in-law, Gloria Bougie and her husband Laurent of Springvale and many nieces and nephews.
