Scarborough Anne Flaherty Gwinn, 80, died on Monday, January 23, 2017, at home with her loving family by her side. Anne was born on May 1, 1936, in Portland, a daughter of the late Patrick and Delia (Folan) Flaherty. She grew up in Portland along with her six siblings. She attended local schools and graduated from Cathedral High School, Class of 1954. She worked at John Hancock Insurance until she met Harry E. Gwinn, Jr. The two were married in 1961 in Portland and moved to Scarborough. Harry and Anne enjoyed more than 30 years of marriage until his death in 1992. After Harrys death, she returned to school to attend a computer class in order to return to the workforce, beginning with a position at the Foundation for Blood Research in Scarborough. She was known for her beautiful flower garden, and in her free time she loved to read mystery books and spend time with her family. She was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Maximilian Kolbe Churches. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry E. Gwinn, Jr.; sister, Mary Napolitano; brothers, Thomas, John, and Bartley Flaherty. Anne is survived by five daughters: Maria Gwinn of Scarborough; Kathleen Harmon and her husband Chris of Hollis; Eileen Gwinn of Massachusetts; Maureen Gwinn of Virginia; and Lisa Gwinn of Scarborough; two sons, Patrick Gwinn and his wife Kim of Saco; Michael Gwinn of Scarborough; sister, Brigid Murphy and her husband Thomas of South Carolina; brother, Patrick Flaherty of Portland; five grandchildren, Heather Simard, Andrew Gwinn, Kevin Gwinn, Kira Harmon, and Darian Harmon. Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 -7:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 10:15 AM followed by an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
