Anne Ruth Bain

SOUTH PORTLAND - Anne Ruth Bain, 89, of South Portland, died Tuesday April 8, 2014 at Mercy Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1924 in Portland a daughter of Daniel R. and Mary Norton Hutchins.Anne was a1943 graduate of Portland High School. Following high school Anne worked briefly for Shaw's Grocery Store. In 1947 she married Harry Rouse Bain, Jr. in Portland. For many years she was a homemaker. Anne returned to work full time following the death of her husband in 1985. She worked as a site coordinator for Southern Maine Area on Aging, South Portland Meals on Wheels, retiring in 2011 after 21 years of service. Anne was an active communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church for many years. She was a member of the Woman's Council and the Choir for many years. As younger women she enjoyed bowling on the women's bowling league and bus trips. Since her retirement she enjoyed the monthly lunches with former coworkers and liked to play cards on Wednesday with her friends. She also enjoyed attending area Bean Suppers on Saturdays. Anne was predeceased by, her husband; a brother, Daniel R. Hutchins, Jr. in 1992; a daughter, Mary Kenny in 2008. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Plummer and her husband Peter of Gorham; a son Harry R. Bain, III and his partner Steve Gardella of Sandown, NH; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:45 a.m. Monday at the South Portland Chapel followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
