PORTLAND - Ann S. "Missy" Lowe, 92, passed away March 24, 2013, with her loving daughter by her side. She was born in Cokeburg, PA on August 12, 1920, daughter of John and Anna (Minerich) Sematic. Ann grew up in Pennsylvania and attended area schools. After she moved to Portland, she worked for Porteous, Mitchell, and Braun in their credit office. She retired in 1989, after 37 years of service to the company. Ann was a devout catholic and a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Her strong faith in God helped her see the good in all people. She was involved in charity work, always thinking of others before herself. She volunteered for the Portland Chamber of Commerce and later she donated her time to the St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen on Congress St. Ann was an avid walker, usually walking to and from work on the weekdays, and on weekends, she would often walk the Eastern Promenade. She even participated in the 5K Bone Density Dash, and received a blue ribbon for first place in the 80 and over division. She loved reading and always had a book close at hand. Ann also enjoyed watching birds and the antics of the backyard squirrel. She always had a cat in her life which she treated like royalty. Ann will always be remembered by those who were lucky enough to know her as a loving and caring person, who had a smile for everyone, and was always willing to offer a hand when needed. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Ann is predeceased by her son, Richard Lowe; five sisters, Verna Rados, Judy Sematic, Millie Sematic, Catherine Whitford, and Roseanne Seminko; and three brothers, John, Andrew, and Michael Sematic. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra DuEst and her husband Mark of Portland; grandson, David Lowe of Windham; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am, Wednesday, March 27, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland. Arrangements entrusted to Conroy-Tully Crawford, 172 State St., Portland. Times when I was recovering in the hospital, I would see your mother’s smiling eyes come through the door to wish me well. She was a very special lady and a dear friend. I will miss her.
