
Scarborough – Ancilla Parent, 93, passed away on March 7, 2026. She was born on March 18, 1932, in Caribou, Maine, the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Edith C. (Chalout) Vermette.
Ancilla attended school in North Caribou and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Portland. From 1949 to 1953, she joined the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Bayview, Saco. She later pursued a career in healthcare, graduating from the School of Radiologic Technology in New York City. Ancilla worked in various clinics and hospitals throughout New England before moving with her family to the Portland area in 1983.
Ancilla dedicated 33 years of service to Maine Medical Center in the Department of Radiology. She was known by family and friends as a very kind, gentle, and gracious woman, and a true prayer warrior whose faith guided her life.
Deeply devoted to her parish community, Ancilla was a longtime and active member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Scarborough. She served in many roles including parish council member, Marriage Encounter, Cursillo, and the Charismatic Renewal. She faithfully served as a Eucharistic minister for 35 years, bringing the Eucharist to nursing homes, Maine Medical Center, and rehabilitation facilities. In addition, she volunteered with Hospice of Southern Maine, offering comfort and care to those in need.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Lorne Parent, Jr.; three brothers, Gerald Vermette, DDS, Gildo Vermette, and Robert Vermette, as well as a grandson, Joshua Betts. Ancilla is survived by her four children: Lorna Missud and husband Fletcher of Wells; Donna Betts of Scarborough; Jennifer Giguere and husband Eric of Westbrook; and Douglas Parent and wife Annette of Westborough, Massachusetts. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and her sister, Ronella Hanson and partner Daniel Field of Saco.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kaler-Vaill, 382 Black Point Road, Scarborough, ME 04074.
