Portland – Alyssa D. Penney, forever 29, with hearts full of love and unimaginable sorrow, our family announces the passing of Alyssa on December 5, 2025, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Alyssa was born on September 23, 1996, in Portland, daughter of Donald Penney and Michelle (Martin) Long.
Alyssa grew up full of energy, determination, and talent. She spent her youth as a gifted athlete- cheerleading, playing field hockey, and especially shining on the softball field, where her competitive spirit was unmatched! She also found happiness in camping at River Run, canoeing down the Saco River, and loving on every dog she met.
Those who knew Alyssa will never forget her fierce independence, her unstoppable loyalty, and the way she always made an entrance- often a little late. Her presence filled every space she entered and her absence leaves a silence that will be deeply felt.
Alyssa left this world far too soon, leaving behind the greatest joy of her life, her son Colby. She will also be missed by her father, Donald Penney; her mother and stepfather, Michelle and Doug Long; her sister, Christie Lagasse and husband Michael; brother, Nick Penney; step-sister, Kaila Starkey and her husband Adam. Alyssa is also lovingly remembered by her maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather, her two nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Visiting hours will be held from 12pm – 2pm on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, followed by a Celebration of Life from 3pm – 7pm at the Maine Elks Lodge #188, 1945 Congress St, Portland.
Please consider making a memorial donation to Hospice of Southern Maine at 390 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074, or online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/donate.

DAD
Words can’t describe how I am feeling right now. You left us to soon. You will always be in my heart. I love you so much mom
I love you beautiful girl
Donnie, we are so sorry for your loss. Alyssa is a beautiful girl, and I will always remember all the fun times we had together when she was a just little tyke. Nothing can ease the loss of a child. The only thing I can offer is to let you know she is with your mom and is being loved and looked after. We love you, kiddo. Aunt Terri and Bob
I hope you’re at peace. I know you probably got an earful when you arrived in heaven. My 2 favorite memories of you 1. When you were little you hated your hair being done, at camp I made you sit your butt down and let me do it, from that day forward your hair was done. 2. How much you loved my hot wings. And when I told you I was making them you always gave that Penney smirk! Watch over your dad and mom, they’re both really hurting. Until we meet again!
Love you forever,
Aunt Tammy
