Althea M. Ranberg

Althea M. Ranberg, 77, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday March 5, 2019 surrounded by her family at Southern Maine Medical Hospital in Biddeford following a brief illness. She was born in Shapleigh on June 5, 1941 a daughter of the late Lloyd and Evelyn Thyng. She was a graduate of Sanford High School. She served in the US Navy from 1959 to 1961.During her life she worked in Retail Management. She was the Manager of Russells Clothing Store, Lovells Pharmacy. She retired from CVS in Sanford where she worked part time doing the greeting cards. In her retirement years she enjoyed making jewelry and giving them as gifts. She also enjoyed working on puzzles, playing card games, board games, bocci and going to the casinos. She enjoyed riding the jeep with no roof. Great joy was brought to her when she was seeing her family including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.She spent the last four years living at the Mayflower Place Assisted Living. She made many wonderful friends during her time there. She enjoyed participating in activities and was always up for games and crafts and anything else going on. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at he Mayflower for all the wonderful care she received during her time there.She is survived by her children, Janet Gauthier and her husband, Dan of Sanford, John Ranberg and his wife, Joanne of Sanford, sister, Elaine Brushwein of Alfred, grandchildren, Jeffrey Gauthier and his wife, Andrea, Jason Gauthier and his wife, Lindsey, Matthew Ranberg and his wife, Rio, Kristen Ranberg, four great grandchildren.A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 8th at 3PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Visiting hours will begin at 1PM until the time of the funeral service.Burial with military honors will be held in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.
