Alice B. Swett

Alice B. Swett, 82, of Sanford, died August 12 at Greenwood Nursing Home with her family by her side.Alice was born on September 21, 1930, the daughter of George and Irene (Wedgwood) McElroy. She grew up in Salem MA, attended the local schools, graduating in 1948 from Salem High School, where she was a proud cheerleader. She then went to work for New England Telephone as a phone operator until she began her family. On February 22, 1952, she married John Swett at St Mary's Church in Beverly MA. She was a devoted military wife spending lots of time raising their five children.She enjoyed Bingo, as well as being an avid sports fan, especially, the Red Sox and Patriots. Alice always looked forward to the Salem/Beverly Thanksgiving Day high school football game, always rooting for Salem. She was a very devout Catholic. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Alice was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her grandson Joshua Shairs.She is survived by: her children Patricia Shairs and her husband George of Kennebunk, John Swett of Beverly MA, Cynthia Karolides and her husband William of Acton ME., Mary Frances Rennick and her husband Jim of Beverly, MA, Mark Swett and his wife Lisa of Groveland, MA.Alice is also survived by her grandchildren Katherine Teague of North Carolina, Patrick Shairs of Tennessee, Allison Shairs of Kennebunk, Kerri Swett of Beverly, MA, Joseph Karolides of Port Orchard WA, Timothy and Thomas Karolides both of Wells, Hailey and Meaghan Rennick both of Beverly, MA Lauren and Matthew Swett both of Groveland, MA. She is survived by great-grandchildren: Corey and Ryan Swett and Grayson Shairs.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 16th at 1:00 PM at Saint Mary's Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA.
