Alice B. Gauthier, 94, of Sanford died at her home on Friday, January 31, 2014.Alice was born on December 6, 1919 to Wilfrid and Matilda (Brochu) Gosselin in Saint-Nobert d'Arthabaska, Quebec where she grew up, attended local schools and worked on the family farm. When she was 16, she and her family relocated to Sanford and Alice went to work in the local shoe shops. She went on to work at Sprague Electric where she was employed for many years until her retirement.Alice was very devoted to her family and was particularly fond of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her siblings, getting together often to play Skip-Bo and tells stories. Alice had an infectious personality and would brighten up any room that she entered. She was a devout Catholic and had attended St. Ignatius Church before her health began to decline. She loved animals, especially her cat. Alice enjoyed listening to music, gardening, sewing and knitting. Over the years she made many stockings, hats and mittens for members of her family. Alice will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.Alice was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Jean-Paul Gauthier; her son, Real Gauthier; two brothers, Marcel and Robert and four sisters, Gilbert, Rita, Irene and Jacqueline.Surviving are three children, Rachel Troegner and her husband Joe of Lyman; Roger Gauthier and his wife Lorraine of Sanford and Don Gauthier and his companion April Forte of Sanford; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 5th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.The family wishes to thank Shirley Bernier and the staff of the Pavilion in Sanford for the care and compassion shown to Alice and her family during her period of declining health.
