Albert Joseph Paulhus, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine surrounded by family. He was born on December 19, 1936 in Sanford, Maine. Albert was the son of the late Onias and Lena (Labbe) Paulhus. He grew up in Sanford and Biddeford graduating from Biddeford High School in 1956. While in School he excelled in athletics, participating in track, basketball and baseball. He continued his athletic career beyond high school, playing semi-professional baseball.Before entering the military he worked as an expediter at Bugbee-Brown, Inc. in Biddeford where he was employed for a few years. While serving in the Army from 1961 to 1965 he married the love of his life, Helen (Guillette), on June 16, 1962. He was stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine and in Germany. After serving his country he worked in area shoe shops, served as a security guard and worked for the Biddeford school department. He retired from Vishay Sprague Electric at the age of 63, but continued to work for the Sanford school department during his retirement. He was the most generous, hard-working and caring family man. He loved visiting and spending time with family and friends and would look forward to visiting family in Florida during the winter. He always put others before himself and enjoyed the simple things of everyday life. Albert loved to tell stories about sports, his adventures and the many interesting experiences that he had during his life. He was an avid bowler and played on several bowling leagues with friends and family and earned an impressive trophy collection over the years. He had many hobbies. Playing card games Cribbage and Hand and Foot were his favorites. He enjoyed driving and his most memorable trips were driving to visit family. He also loved walking and would regularly travel miles on foot. He enjoyed horse and dog racing and playing the lottery, especially scratch off bingo. He was very athletic and was passionate about baseball, but even more important, the New York Yankees. He was known for being a walking encyclopedia when it came to baseball facts. He loved watching and teaching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren sports and enjoyed going to their games.He is predeceased by his wife Helen (Guillette) Paulhus in 1982, his daughters Pamela Paulhus in 1967, Priscilla Paulhus in 1989, a son, Richard Paulhus in 1971 and a sister Jane Moisan in 2013.He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Paulhus) Ham and her husband Lynn of Sanford, ME and Yvonne Paulhus of Daytona Beach, FL; three sisters, Adrienne and her husband Edward Fagnant of Chicopee, MA, Claire Wormwood of Kennebunk, ME, and Doris Pires of Belchertown, MA and a brother Raymond Paulhus of Plaistow, NH; four grandchildren that were very special to him, Lisa (Ham) Gosling and her husband Christopher of Sanford, Lori (Ham) Beach and her husband Matthew of Windham, Sandra Ham and her fiance Jeremy Lowell of Westbrook, Joshua McGrath and his wife Julie of Pensacola, FL. His six great-grandchildren Landon, Logan, Cathryn and Caitlyn Gosling of Sanford; Lexie and Max Beach of Windham, Me. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.The family would like to express gratitude to all of the staff at Mercy Hospital for their exceptional care and support of Albert and his family over the last few weeks. A special thank you to Albert's beloved Dr. Craig Brett.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 8th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford.
