Albert R. Lessard, 80, of Sanford, Maine passed away November 9, 2009 surrounded by his loving family, at the Greenwood Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with cancer.He was born in Sanford on May 16, 1929, son of Lea (Gagnon) and Adrian J. Lessard.Albert served in the U.S. Navy just after World War II.Albert worked at the Goodall Mills Pioneer Plastics until the company relocated to Auburn, Maine. While at Pioneer Plastics he served as president of the AFL CIO Local 70. He also worked at the York County Court House.He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He enjoyed hunting and sports. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Albert is predeceased by his wife Madeleine B. Fontaine Lessard, his parents, his sister, Rose Sheltra, and his brother Robert J. Lessard.He is survived by his daughters: Cynthia Yeram and her husband Gerry of Acton; LeeAnn McIntosh and her husband William of Lebanon; Catherine Alejo and her husband Jose of Texas; and Denise Rockwell and her companion Pete Davila of West Newfield.Albert also leaves grandchildren: Christopher Lachance and his fiance Amanda Bailey of Sanford; Amy Pillsbury and her husband GySgt Richard Pillsbury of North Carolina; Tammy Nelson and her husband Jarrett of Texas; Tina Gammon and her husband Steve of Cornish; SSgt. Matthew Yeram of California; and SSgt. James Yeram and his wife Amanda of California. He also leaves great grandchildren Joshua and Dustin Lachance, Evan Main, R. Garrett Pillsbury, Logan and Emma Yeram, and Ty and Jordan Nelson.The family wishes to thank the staffs of Goodall Hospital and Greenwood Center for the care given to Albert.A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Interment to follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.In lieu of flowers the family has asked contributions be sent to the Cancer Care Center of York County, 27 Industrial Avenue, Sanford, Maine 04073.Arrangements are being handled by the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
