Alan Maurice Marshall Irving

Falmouth - Alan M. M. Irving, 73, died on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.
Alan was born on May 20, 1945, in London, England, the son of the late Malcom D. W. and Roberta R. C. (Marshall) Irving. With the ending of WWII his family moved to Connecticut to be closer to his mother's family. Alan attended St. Paul's School in Concord, NH and Hobart College in Geneva, NY where he received his Bachelor's degree in International Politics. After graduation, Alan enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War as a First Lieutenant in transportation.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Alan began working in the in financial services in the Coal Mining Industry. His career took him around the world and he spent time in five of the seven continents but mostly in Kazakhstan, Russia, and the Far East. Perhaps his most interesting assignment was with The Coal Project at one of the world's largest open pit coal mines in Ekibastuz, Kazakhstan. He loved to travel the world, but one of his favorite places was Bermuda. In his free time he also enjoyed sailing.
Alan will be remembered as someone who would do anything for the ones he loved. He enjoyed connecting with new people though political discussions and consuming his English Plum Pudding during the holidays. He also treasured his association with Hobart College and frequently attended class reunions.
Alan is survived by his wife, Natalia Irving, who he married in December of 2005 in Virginia. They were happily together for twenty years. He is also survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Meyer and her husband Steven of PA; two sons, Preston Irving and his wife Gretel of PA, Maxim Irving of ME; a brother, Anthony Irving and his wife Debra of CT; four grandchildren that he adored, Grace, William, Veronica, Ruby; and many cousins.
A Celebration of Alan's life with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 10:30AM, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 580 Forest Ave, Portland. A reception will follow in the Guildhall. A private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, Portland, ME.

I remember your dad and I had great conversation and laughs at you your wedding when we all walk down to what I know of as the old Smisko house, Which of course was the Townhouse.Sorry for your loss.
