Adrienne C. Fontaine

November 27, 1939 ~ March 14, 2026

ALFRED- Adrienne C. Fontaine, 86, of Sanford, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Woodlands Senior Living Memory Care Unit in Waterville. Adrienne was born in Rochester, NH on November 27, 1939, to Henry and Eva (Gagne) Mercier. She grew up in Somersworth, N.H., where she attended local schools. She spent her earlier years in Somersworth N.H. and then she and her family moved to Sanford, Maine. In 1962, she married Armand “Reggie” Fontaine (aka blue eyes) and together they shared 52 years of marriage and raised three daughters.

Adrienne worked as a bank teller in Somersworth and then when she moved to Sanford, she began working at the State Liquor Store in Sanford and later in Kittery. This meant that she was well known in both towns. Adrienne had many passions but none more important than her family and her Catholic faith and service to her faith community.

As a young person Adrienne was a majorette in high school, she loved to ice skate, and she loved to watch the Olympics, especially figure skating and gymnastics. She poured her heart into her family, and her greatest wish was for her family to always stay close to each other and to God.

Adrienne was a very active member of St. Thérèse of Lisieux parish, where she was full of zeal in making her parish vibrant with evangelizing activities. She served as a Eucharistic Minister in church and to the home bound. She served for many years taking care of the parish prayer line. She was a faithful Associate of the Presentation of Mary Sisters, attending monthly spiritual growth meetings and yearly conferences. She was a member and officer of the Ladies of St. Anne as well as a member of the Daughters of Isabella (Knights of Columbus). She was a member of Catholic Charismatic movement, a table leader for Life in the Spirit seminars and hosted Bible study groups for many years. She also supported Reggie by volunteering for various events and projects with the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, she was a faithful volunteer and supporter of the national MS Society’s MS Walk over many years to support two daughters and a granddaughter afflicted with MS.

Adrienne was predeceased by her parents and her spouse Reggie. Surviving are three daughters, Michelle Butler and her husband Joseph of Auburn, MA, Simonne Maline and her husband Walter of Oakland, and Nicolle DeRoche and her fiancé Doug St. Laurent of Sanford; four grandchildren, Shannon Butler of Auburn, MA, Samuel Butler of Newport, Maine, Brittany Fontaine of Saco and Tyler Ferland of Omaha, NE; one great-grandson, Lucas Maietta of Saco.

We want to especially thank Cindy Yeram, one of Adrienne’s nieces, who has given her love and support over the last years to her Ma Tante; her care for her was beyond measure.

Adrienne’s family also wishes to thank the team at Maine General Palliative Care and Hospice for their angelic support in the end times, as well as the staff at Woodlands Senior Living in Waterville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 27th at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, located at 66 North Avenue in Sanford.  The family will be there to greet attendees beginning at 9:30 AM.  A private interment will be held at a later date at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 83 Stanley Road in Springvale.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald Walker Funeral Homes in Springvale.
