Adrien Martel, 91, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.Adrien was born in St. Leon, Quebec on January 27, 1926 to Joseph and Mary (Cote) Martel. He grew up in Sanford where he attended local schools. In 1948 he married Barbara Lovely and together they raised two children and shared 69 years of marriage. During his working life Adrien held several jobs including working in the Goodall Textile Mills, as a painter for Lewis Paint Company, as an electrician for Mason Dutton, on the construction of Pease Air Force Base and finally for 22 years for Adams Trucking and Auclair Trucking.Adrien wintered in Florida for many years. While there he would collect shells which he enjoyed using in a variety of craft projects. He was very proud of the fact that he was Santa Claus for the Town of Sanford for many years and volunteered as a delivery driver for meals on wheels for over 25 years. He enjoyed square dancing, puzzles, camping, listening to country music and participating in craft fairs. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed.Adrien was predeceased by his grandson, Robbie Warner and by four siblings.Surviving are his wife, Barbara Martel of Sanford; two children, Dennis Martel of Acton and Shirley Martel of Sanford; his brother, Joseph Leo Paul Martel and his wife Melvina of Salem, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Jesse, Darci and Mallory Martel and Barbara and Jeffrey Harriman; two great-grandchildren, Julliette Harriman and Daijah Shepard and many nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 2nd at the Lovely Family Cemetery located at 151 Sam Wentworth Road in Lebanon.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, Maine 04074.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
