Adam W Hitchcock

June 26, 1973 ~ October 30, 2018
Portland - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Adam W. Hitchcock, 45, of Portland, on Tuesday October 30, 2018 at Maine Medical Center. Adam passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Adam was born in Bangor, Maine on June 26, 1973, the son of David C. and Lukrecija B. (Bendzius) Hitchcock. He graduated from South Portland High School in 1991.
From a young age, Adam loved to sing. He sang himself to sleep as a toddler and later joined the Boys Singers of Maine. As a teenager, he taught himself guitar, and with that a rockstar was born. Adam was a remarkable self-taught musician. Many good friendships and fond memories were made while Adam worked in the local restaurant scene, but his passion was always music. As a talented lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter he had success with several bands, including Sun Gods in Exile and Black Apple. Black Apple debuted a self-titled album in 2002. Sun Gods in Exile recorded two full-length albums, Black Light, White Lines (2009) and Thanks for the Silver (2012), touring the U.S. and Europe to promote their music. Adam was incredibly proud of the music he made, the bands he was a part of and all those he played and created music with. Adam was a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the Southern Rock Society. Along with his musical talents, Adam will be most remembered for his unforgettable sense of humor and wit. Adam was a kind and gentle soul loved by all and lost too soon.
In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by his beloved partner of seven years, Catherine A. Thomson of Portland; brother, John A. Hitchcock of Portland; sister, Stacie L. Hitchcock and her husband Gabriel L. Hall of Barnstable, MA; brother, Carl A. Hitchcock of Portland; nephew, Gus L. Hall of Barnstable, MA; and Adam and Catherine's cherished dog, Mouse. Adam is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
A service to celebrate Adam's life will be held by his family in June 2019.
