PORTLAND—Adam D. Battles, 36, of Kingston, New Hampshire died of natural causes on Friday, December 9, 2022 in Portland, Maine.
He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts February 9, 1986 (although his tattoo artist knew he was “made in Mexico”), the son of Ing-Mari B. Bahr and Thomas A. Battles. He grew up in Kingston, New Hampshire, spending his summers with his family in Sweden, and went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Health Administration. He lived in Barcelona and Prague over the past six years before settling in the Portland Area. Adam was working as a Program Coordinator at Maine Health at the time of his death.
Adam was a gentle giant with a boyish quality for embracing life. He was a gifted communicator. He charmed you with his humor and relaxed manner. He commanded the room when he walked in, making his presence known with 6’3” stature and boisterous laugh. Adam was an adventurer who lived for experiences; from snowboarding in the Alps to surfing in Portugal, and jumping off cliffs in Lake Powell and Sebec Lake. He lived every day in the present and to its fullest, never a moment lost. He was drawn to the water from a young age and the ocean was his happy place.
Adam was our executive chef, wherever in the world we found ourselves he was always in charge of the kitchen. His creativity and flavor did not disappoint, but we were often starving by the time food was on the table. Kebab pizza was his favorite snack.
Adam is survived by his mother, Ing-Mari Bahr and Buck Lovern, his father, Thomas Battles and Michele Chadburn; his sister, Tiffany Battles LeBlanc and her husband Ian and his unborn niece, his Swedish grandmother, Birgit Bahr; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins in both Sweden and the United States.
The family will hold a celebration of life in the spring/summer. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Adam’s Name (https://everloved.com/life-of/adam-battles/).
While he was not with our team long, he made an impact that will not be forgotten. May his cheerful smile bring your family peace during this difficult time.
A very good friend indeed.
I am so very sorry to learn of Adam’s passing. I was just getting to know him at work, but I could tell he was a kind and compassionate man. I would have loved to have heard stories of his travels and adventures. I hope that you are able to have joy over sadness in your hearts when you remember him.
That he sat very well for sensitive tattoo work. I did the blue gargoyle on his shin among others.
Can’t share. But we had our blasts.
Defending each other in a riot that got out of hand in Massachusetts 2002.
By staying true to his culture and people. By being a law abiding hard working contribution to society.
A good guy. Very family orientated. A bit hard to read. Ambitious.
His independence.
I tattooed Adam at my old Tattoo shop the TaTToomB of Nashua NH and at our apartment we shared for a year in Malden Massachusetts. We met 2002 in Derry NH. Freinds ever since though we lost touch over the years. We both moved to Maine around the same time recently and I only found out upon his death. Sad.
He was fearless in taking on the world through extensive travel as I have achieved
Me and Adam met as extreme right wingers with hate in our hearts, but eventually matured into moderate Conservatives minus the hate that almost destroyed us. And I found Jesus.
That not all friends are there for our entire lives. But may come and go or never be seen again. Learn something from it.
I pray for your safe passage into God’s realms of love.
