Position Descriptions:
Funeral Director
Are you surprised to see another “Help Wanted” posting through the Maine Funeral Directors Association? We’re not. Nearly every funeral home is hiring, and licensed funeral directors remain in short supply. If you are genuinely happy where you are, that is a good thing—and not something we would expect you to change. However, if you have ever been curious about what a different environment might look like, we would welcome a confidential conversation.
Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes is a locally owned, family-operated firm serving Portland and South Portland. We operate from a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility with a modern Care Center and are committed to continually improving the level of service we provide to families. We invest in our team through consistent training, including quarterly, in-person work with nationally recognized training firm, Graystone Associates, and maintain a culture focused on professionalism, accountability, and growth.
We are seeking a licensed funeral director who takes pride in their work, communicates effectively with families, and is attentive to the details that define exceptional service.
- Conduct personalized, thoughtful arrangement conferences
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with families
- Coordinate and direct services with a high level of detail and professionalism
- Perform hands-on decedent care, including embalming, preparation, dressing, and casketing
- Work collaboratively with a team-oriented staff across locations
The position offers a 3-weekend rotation, shared on-call responsibilities, and the support of a dedicated transfer team.
- Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000
- Quarterly performance bonuses (typically $4,000–$8,000 annually)
- 100% employer-paid health insurance (employee)
- SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with employer contribution
- Paid time off
- Clothing allowance and dry cleaning
- Cell phone stipend
- License fees and MFDA membership dues covered
- Meaningful continuing education and professional development
Our culture is grounded in taking the work seriously while supporting one another as a team. We are not perfect, and we do not present ourselves that way. We are, however, intentional about getting better—through training, open communication, and a shared commitment to high standards. For the right individual, this is an environment where you can continue to grow and take pride in the work you do.
All inquiries will be handled with strict confidentiality. No pressure—simply an opportunity to connect.
