Wayne D. Cameron, 62, of Sanford, passed away at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Friday, August 4, 2023, following a brief illness.
Born on December 15, 1960, in York, Maine, he was the beloved son of the late William and Doris (Ducharme) Cameron. Wayne grew up in Wells, where he attended local schools and graduated from Wells High School. After graduation, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for four years.
Wayne was a highly skilled mechanic, known especially for his unparalleled expertise in transmission repair. He dedicated many years to various garages and car dealerships, where his talents benefited countless drivers over the years. Sadly, declining health compelled him to retire after years of dedicated service.
An ardent pool player, Wayne competed in many tournaments, journeying as far as Las Vegas. He was a member of the American Poolplayers Association and secured the title in the best of the best pool tournaments for the Sanford area multiple times.
In addition to pool, Wayne had a passion for hunting and anything NASCAR. He was a life member of the Wolves Club in Sanford, where he was cherished like family by its members.
He was predeceased by his parents, William Cameron, Sr. and Doris Emerson, as well as his sister, Sheila Banks.
Wayne's memory will be lovingly carried forward by his brother, William Cameron, Jr. and his companion Pam Nelson of Sanford, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service with military honors will take place at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, August 23rd at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale. Friends and family are warmly invited to a Celebration of William's life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 26th at the Wolves Club, located on High Street in Sanford.
All arrangements are being expertly handled by Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
