Rose Marie T. Ryan

September 16, 1950 ~ January 17, 2024
Resided in:
Lebanon, Maine
Family members of Rose Marie “Rosebud” Ryan (formerly Brielman) are profoundly saddened by her recent passing on January 17, 2024, after a well-fought battle with brain cancer.
Rosebud was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Sept. 16, 1950, the daughter of veterinarian Dr. Winthrop and Marie (Geoffrion) Brielman of Holmes Road. She would grow up with her two brothers and two sisters on Abby Lodge Farm a working dairy farm, doing the traditional chores and participating heavily in 4-H, a foundation for her future in elementary education.
She would graduate from Pittsfield High School in 1968, and four years later depart North Adams State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a dedicated, loving husband, Larry Ryan. They would both teach 5th Grade at Willard School in Sanford, Maine for the next 39 years; the last eight as husband/wife team teachers. On that first day of each new school year Rosebud would give each student a refrigerator magnet “the Ryan Hotline” that she made (of course) to be used in case a student had a problem with homework or if a parent had a question. Her creativity shined through her lesson plans and amazing bulletin boards.
Rosebud could never be accused of wasting time as there were always creative, productive things to do. She loved working with her hands and was a skilled craftsperson and artist. She sewed quilts and baby blankets and made crafts by hand to gift away to friends and family. Her oil and acrylic paintings adorned the home, she played piano and enjoyed gardening, and made homemade ties for Larry. And every year those that knew her looked forward to receiving a lovely handmade Christmas card, one of the last tasks she fought hard to complete before her passing.
Rosebud and Larry raised two loving children and took great pride in sharing their accomplishments. She absolutely loved spending time with her 4 grandchildren, who called her “Geenie,” and she cherished that they lived close enough for her to see them regularly, watch them grow, read their literary awards, attend their games, and become promising teens and young adults. She was equally proud of her 13 nieces and nephews as they built their own wonderful families.
Rosebud was predeceased by her brother, Russell Brielman. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry; her children, Larry Ryan, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Amy Boucher (formerly Ryan) and husband Peter of Wells, Maine and her grandchildren Noah, Grace, Alivia, and Luke Boucher; her sister Joan Lyng and husband, Hubert, sister Elaine Derboven, brother Christopher Brielman and wife, Corliss, and sister-in-law, Lola Brielman; and her sister-in-law Ann DeFilippis and husband Artie, sister-in-law Margaret Rockwell and husband Charlie.
Rosebud lived the definition of a successful and beautiful life, getting the most life out of her life, and will be greatly missed for her selfless kindness and sincere respect and compassion towards others. We love you, Mom.
In lieu of flowers or gifts the family ask that you consider submitting a donation on Rosebud’s behalf to one of her cherished places, the Springvale Public Library at 443 Main Street, Springvale, ME 04083. She loved to read, frequented this favorite library for decades and was never late returning a book.
There will be hugs and stories shared at a celebration of Rose Marie Ryan on Monday, February 5th, 2024, from 4pm-7pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, (P.O. Box 175) Springvale, Maine 04083 (207)-324-4104. Quiz to follow.
I always looked extra forward to our trips to Pittsfield as a kid when Aunt Rosebud, Uncle Larry, Little Larry, and Amy would be in town. Such great memories that I will always cherish. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
I am going to miss you sweet lady!I always loved when you would get to the phone before my brother so we’d have a couple of minutes to chat before he showed up! Thank you for being such a perfect wife, mom, sister in law, teacher, and friend to so many people. God Bless you and keep you safe. Miss you. Ann
Rosebud was the heartbeat of her family. I truly believe she will continue to be until everyone is reunited in heaven with her. Rest in peace sister-in-law . Miss and love you always, Ann.
I will never forget hearing the stories of the adventures which Rosebud and my Mum got up to, and their laughter still echoes in our dining room. Sending lots of love and hugs to you all <3

Mr and Mrs Ryan were the dynamic duo. My heart is saddened to hear of her passing. She was a true angel who helped so many children. I will always appreciate her book sharing and how she tried to teach me how to be crafty as a left handed 5th grade girl. Grateful for how dedicated her and her husband were to their students.
I feel very fortunate to have known Rosebud, Larry and their two children since we moved in as neighbors back in 1975. She had such a wonderful personality and made anyone feel instantly comfortable around her. My deepest condolences to Larry, Amy, Larry and the rest of the family. RIP Rosebud, you will be missed…
I spent 30 years teaching alongside Rose and her husband, salt of the earth and great teachers. My heart hurts for Larry and the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
To Larry, Elaine & family,
So sorry to hear of Rosebud’s passing.
