John C. Petit, 60, of North Waterboro, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. John was born in Biddeford, Maine on March 30, 1962 to Doris (Laflamme) and the late Ralph Petit. John was the loving husband of Susan Sisca-Petit of Fall River, Massachusetts. John was a proud Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, Submarine Service, serving his country for 22 years. John was an avid fisherman, hunter, and card player. As a true family man would, John loved spending time with his family and friends most of all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his wife Susan Sisca-Petit, his daughter, Zoé Petit, his dear friend, Jake Voisine, his mother, Doris Petit, his sisters, Carol (Cornwell) and husband Bill, Susan Petit, several nieces and nephews, and countless family members and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday February 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Saint Matthews Church, located at 19 Dora Lane in Limerick, ME. Everyone is invited to go directly to the church. The service will be followed by a memorial meal and gathering at the AMVETS located at 169 School Street in Sanford, ME. John will be laid to rest at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in a private burial in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Hospice of Southern Maine: In-Home Program, who provided compassionate care for John and his family during his final days. Donations may be sent by mail to Hospice of Southern Maine, In-Home Program, 390 US Route 1, Scarborough, Maine 04073 or you may click the donation link below. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and cremation service, Sanford-Springvale.

  1. I will always see John operating the boat on the lake enjoying being with friends ds and family. The sun shining and always smiling. Asking me to sit on a certain side of the boat to balance the weight. Haha..God I love this man.

    I always cherish the fond memories from our submarine service on USS Whale, Navy retirement ceremonies and the many gatherings with family and friends. You were always the life of the party at any function. Your love touched many and you will forever be in my thoughts and heart. I hope you will be there to welcome me aboard when the time comes. I will always be there for Sue and Zoe’ who have my heartfelt condolences.

  6. During my four years at MMCC John made me laugh almost every single day. I am heartbroken to know that the world has to say goodbye to such a beautiful person. My heart goes out to all who loved him.

  8. I will always remember John taking time to chat even when he was super busy . He genuinely cared and loved people . His realness made you think twice and take his advice. He gave great life advice. I will miss him. Go Navy!

  9. I met John by being Zoe’s NJROTC teacher at Massabesic High School. John and I bonded very quickly, both being retired Navy Chief’s and Submariners. Through the 4 years that Zoe was at Massabesic, John participated in many NJROTC events, community service activities, drill meets, field trips, etc… John was always upbeat and always brought joy and happiness everywhere he went. We continued to be friends after Zoe graduated from high school and he will always hold a special place in my heart. God is receiving a good man for His purposes. I will miss my friend.
