George D. Tarbox
George D. Tarbox, 100, of Westbrook passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Barron Center in Portland.George was born in Parsonsfield on October 9, 1908 to Lorenzo and Josephine (Cox) Tarbox. His family moved to Melrose, MA when George was young. He lived and attended school there for several years until his family moved back to Parsonsfield where he continued his education at the Parsonsfield Seminary. On October 7, 1927 he married Esther Abbott and together they raised three children.During his working life, George worked for a time as a deputy for the York County Sheriff's Department. He then worked for many years as a chauffeur and was also employed as a caregiver for the New York State School where he worked until retiring in 1963. He was a member of the West Newfield Masonic Lodge and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. George was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Esther Tarbox, in 1995 and by two grandsons.Surviving are three children, Maurice Tarbox of Florida, Eleanor Stanley of Westbrook and Carl Tarbox of Cornish; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 PM with a funeral service being held at 2:30 PM Monday, June 22nd at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
