Russell L. Smart

Russell L. Smart, Sr., 77, of Alfred, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2009, at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. He was born in Saco on December 7, 1931, a son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Charles) Smart. Russell graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1950.He served in the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Navy for four years in Korea. He worked for Central Maine Power in the line department. for over 35 years.He was Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Blaisdell Baptist Church in Waterboro.He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Margaret (Blow) Smart, one son, Russell L. Smart Jr., and one brother, Gene Smart.He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth May Smart LaChance, one son, Rodney Smart, two granddaughters, Jo Lynn LaChance and Savanna LaChance, three sisters, Louise Hamor of Saco, Judy Charette of Florida and Carol Gelinas of Arizona, as well as many nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.To leave a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
