John F. Hayden, 74, of Lebanon, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his home.John was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on January 18, 1937 to John and Emma (Faber) Hayden and attended local schools. In 1965 he married Maureen Earley and the couple relocated to Lebanon where they would spend the next 46 years and raise a son.When he was a young man John was employed at the Fore River Ship Yard in Quincy, MA. When he moved to Maine he established New England Auto Salvage, which he owned and operated for many years. He owned and operated heavy equipment for most of his life doing a lot of work for the town of Lebanon over the years. This eventually led to him becoming the road commissioner for Lebanon. He held this position for many years until retiring about 10 years ago. John had been very involved in youth athletics both as a coach and team sponsor for many years. He also enjoyed hunting and collecting guns. John was a very devoted grandfather who made it a point to attend as many of his grandchildren's activities as he could. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed joking around with people. He was a kind and generous man and had many friends. John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. John was predeceased by a sister, June Scofield and by a brother-in-law Brian Brown.Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Maureen Hayden of Lebanon; a son, Charles Hayden and his wife Lori of Lebanon; a sister, Dorothy Brown of Lebanon; a brother-in-law, Robert Scofield of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Matthew and Libby Hayden of Lebanon and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a memorial service following at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 22nd at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
